Department of Psychology
INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE

The Department of Psychology was founded
in April 2003. The history of the department
is still short, but the department provides
students with an excellent opportunity to
learn scientific methods to understand mechanisms
of mental activities and human behavior,
to create a comprehensive knowledge structure
of a variety of psychological areas, and
to explore how psychology can be useful not
only in occupational fields but in everyday
living. Through the extensively structured
course for four years, students can come
to know themselves deeply, develop social
skills to communicate well with others, learn
techniques to be helpful for others in families,
companies, communities, and various kinds
of homes and hospitals. Finally, students
can get a certificate of a specialist of
psychology that may serve their career goals.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE CURRICULUM

During the first year, the fundamental subjects
in the faculty are to be learned. There are
six subjects that are offered by the department
and two of them are compulsory subjects.
Students learn the fundamentals of psychology
and how psychology is related to everyday
living. The specialties begin from the second
year, which consist of three fields of subjects:
(a) Methods and Training, (b) Major fields,
and (c) Applied and Relevant fields. Every
field of subjects includes well-organized
compulsory and selective subjects, so that
each student could learn hierarchically all
areas of psychology. Students learn most
of the subjects in the second and third years
extensively, and select one subject from
the major fields as a specialty to expand
their knowledge and skills in the fourth
year. These features in the structure of
the course mean that theoretical and practical
subjects and basic and applied subjects are
well balanced. |
